Looking back on the accident

After coming back, each of us took the accident really seriously. One of us is very experienced hiker; he has been hiking more than 25 years, but this was the first case for him. The injured friend had the toughness to endure the pain, so we didn't have to ask for rescue crew, but other wise this had been bigger trouble. Seeing the weather and the conditions of ourselves, we had changed our schedule several times before the accident, but some decisions we had made might have been wrong. Each is thinking what we should have done. We will wait for her operation to be done safely and wait for her recovery. When she gets well again, we all get together and go hiking to safe and easy mountain to encourage her. Just hoping she will not lose her job because of her long absence.
一昨日の滑落は私達５人の心に暗い影を落としました。今回のメンバーの１人、山歴２５年のベテランも、こんな経験は初めてだそうで、ショックを隠せないようです。夜下山した後、彼らが「これは、つまり遭難と同等だね」と言った言葉が重く残っています。骨折した仲間は強靭な精神力で痛みに耐えて自力で下山したけれど、普通の人ならあの距離を長時間は歩けずに救援を要請したかもしれません。滑落を防げたかもしれない可能性を、帰ってから各自がそれぞれの立場で探っています。天候や体調など、色々な理由で事前にも当日にも計画を変更した中で、私達の判断にはミスもあったと思う。私達は大きな宿題をもらったような気持ちです。彼女の手術が終わってリハビリが進んだら、また同じメンバーで里山から歩き始めようと相談しています。彼女は長く仕事を休むことになるので、解雇されることだけが心配。そんなことになったら、今回の山行は悔やんでも悔やみきれません。
